ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with what many would consider to be some of the trickier issues within the remit of the PSHCE co-ordinator. It’s one thing planning, designing lessons and teaching controversial issues such as SRE, drugs education and citizenship education – but how do you ensure quality, assess the learning, evaluate the programme and report progress to parents? Can you really assess, and should progress be reported anyway? In this chapter we explore some of the genuine moral and educational dilemmas faced by co-ordinators and suggest a number of tools that could be used in each of the four areas.
