ABSTRACT
Most authors were notoriously bad about money. This was partly because most of them had very little of it so they never got enough practice, and partly because there had been, in Western culture at least, a long-held belief that writing and authorship were on a higher plain - and were thus sullied if they got involved with filthy lucre.
