When I work with ,immigrant children, I think carefully about all the cultures in the room. I begin by being aware of the potential learning situation. A sensitive understanding of one's students is the key to whether the blocked energies of a youngster will unblock. I am always interested in the end result and ready to give up on an old idea or approach, if I see it isn't working. No two lesson plans are the same each year. There is no formula that works all the time; everything really depends on the children. I listen to them. I observe them in the schoolyard, while I am teaching a lesson, or when we are working in small groups. I am always looking out of the corner of my eye. I can even see around corners.
