ABSTRACT

Emily recently graduated from a teacher preparation program and was hired by Clarke County School District to teach third gradeo Her elementary school is situated in a huge school district in the midst of a very large city. In a recent conversation with her principal, she found out that 2B students are currently listed on her class roster. She has several weeks to prepare for the beginning of the school year. She knows she has important decisions to make about how she wants to structure literacy instruction in her classroom. On this particular day, she is planning how she will structure vocabulary instruction in her classroom. She starts thinking about how most of her teachers taught vocabulary to her when she was in school.
