ABSTRACT

Maribeth Smith, a student teacher, told us that during her 24 time block she used a cell phone to talk with a member of her study group (and sent a picture of the book she was planning to use in her lesson plan over the phone line). Later that afternoon, she took her laptop computer to a local coffee stofe and used the wireless services in the store to visit Web sites on which her class homework was posted. While she was doing this, she received an e-mail with an attachment of the group's paper and a request to meet to discuss the paper. Consulting her handheld personal data assistant (PDA), she reviewed her calendar and responded to the e-mail with dates and times that were good for her.
