Developing clear job descriptions and accountabilities
The exploration of the issues in Chapter 3 can now be illustrated with practical examples drawn from the schools and LEAs that carried out the action research based on the use of indicators and review questions. It was significant that in the first review of practice carried out by the participants at the first workshop the majority (7/12) chose to scrutinise the status of their current TA job descriptions. The process of reflecting on the indicator about management policy and the associated review questions that asked about 'up-ta-date and relevant job descriptions' and whether these had been 'drawn up with the assistants' involvement' and 'reviewed on a regular basis' prompted them to take immediate action. Interestingly, other schools, although not starting with this focus, also moved on to this area realising that it was an aspect that should be addressed.
