ABSTRACT

ALL GEOGRAPHERS FORM GENERAL impressions in the course of their work that are the beginnings of ideas and hypotheses. We might observe that some forms of retail function cluster more readily than others, or that steep slopes are associated with particular types of rock. But whatever the nature of such speculations and hypotheses, we would always want to know if they are correct. We can do this by objectively assessing them against reality, often using statistical methods.
