Part Four Stanislavski's Master Classes on Hamlet
By the spring of 1937, the students were sufficiendy advanced in their studies to be able to start work on plays. Stanislavski was now very ill and his contribution to the Studio was to review work which his assistants had prepared with the students in a series of master classes."† Much of the work centred on Hamlet. A woman student had elected to study Hamlet. Stanislavski approved on the grounds that this emphasised the need to work from one's own self. She would not role-play a man, but use her own life experience for the character.
