ABSTRACT

The miraculous vibration of vocal sound is set in motion by a signal from the brain, together with the passage of the out-breath through a very small structure suspended inside the throat: the larynx. The larynx is in a highly strategic position in the body. It is hanging suspended towards the front of the neck, exactly at the bridge point between head and body. A sound vibrator of amazing versatility, it nestles against a complex muscular mesh of vital passageways, some of which transport blood to and from the brain and some of which carry food to the stomach. In action, it vibrates close to the cervical spine that protects the major nerve pathways flowing to and from the cerebral cortex. The larynx is wrapped around by the thyroid, the hormonal gland responsible for

metabolic levels, and is close to another gland, the thymus, whose real function is still largely undiscovered. The larynx is comparatively close to the eyes, the ears, the brain and the heart.
