The four nations bordering the Gulf of Aqaba hold in common an important natural resource and so share responsibility for preventing its degradation. The finite dimensions of the Gulf and the close physical proximity of all four Gulf-bordering states underscore the extent to which the actions of one country are felt by its neighbors. Only by coordinating their individual efforts can Egypt, Israel, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia safeguard the Gulf from damage or destruction.
