ABSTRACT

Feminist theory tells us that socializing women and men to conform to traditional gender roles means limiting people's options, denying them the choice to follow the path that best fulfils their potential. Feminist theory points out that both "good girls" and "bad girls" are objectified by patriarchy. They are not viewed as independent human beings with their own goals, needs, and desires. Feminism would like to achieve a society in which women and men are encouraged to fulfil their full potential as human beings regardless of the extent to which their abilities and inclinations differ from traditional definitions of femininity and masculinity. Feminism argues that while people may be born either female or male, they are not born feminine or masculine. Feminist concepts can help us see the ways in which patriarchal ideology persists today even in our everyday lives.
