ABSTRACT

This game helps children gain control over varying and constructing sentences.

When I was asked to write some activities for the National Literacy Strategy in 2000 I had several that came under the general heading of 'mucking about with sentences'. The NLS folk didn't mind, but you can imagine what the Ofsted terriers thought of it ('mucking about' was NOT permitted - they wanted serious analysis .. . ). It was sometimes like standing at the gates of Hades and feeling the sad, hot breath of Death itself, reaching out to stultify and terrorise any sign of creativity, imagination or initiative that teachers and children might have. Still, here is the fun game called 'mucking about with sentences' - at long last!
