ABSTRACT

On a warm summer evening, a women’s discussion group was underway at a senior community

center in northern California. At this particular meeting, one longtime participant, Jerry, a

short, white-haired woman in her seventies, made an announcement to the group. ‘‘After

years of work, I just sent off my book manuscript . . . it is about my sexual relationship with a younger man, and the importance of society recognizing senior women and our sen-

suality.’’ The room erupted in cheers. Afterwards, several women approached Jerry,

wanting to share stories about their own sexual experiences and to hear more about

hers.
