ABSTRACT

We often think of the meaning of sex and sexuality as given and fixed. For example, we

might think that it is a given that men are usually the agents in sexual acts, that they are the

ones who make the important decisions, who decide when the sex act is to occur, and so on.

And we might think of it as equally given that women play the more passive role, abiding by

the sexual decisions of men. We might also take it as given that sex is something we do not

talk much about, because it is taboo, embarrassing, or sacred.
