ABSTRACT

For children over the age of one year accidental injury is the biggest single cause of death in the UK and in 2002, 320 children under the age of 15 years died because of an injury or poisoning (CAPT 2003). The majority of these accidents are due to falls by children either slipping or tripping on the same level, such as on a pavement or on a rug. Babies and young children are also sometimes hurt after falling from one level to another, such as from a chair, bed or changing table onto the floor or on or from the stairs.
