ABSTRACT

Production weekend is the time when the director will work hardest, and when his efficiency and talent will be most severely tested. It’s called production weekend because in the old rep system the set would be changed on Saturday night, the technical rehearsal would take place on Sunday, and the dress-rehearsal on Monday, for a Monday evening opening. Nowadays the production is more likely to open in mid-week, and the technical rehearsal might take a great deal longer than Sunday afternoon and evening. A really good director will show his strength during the tech. A bad one might collapse into complete disorder.
