ABSTRACT

In addition to exploring the paths by which contact reduces prejudice, we must also consider the kinds of “prejudice” we seek to reduce through intergroup contact. Specifically, when we bring groups together, what are we hoping to accomplish? Are we seeking to change what people think about other groups, how they and their groups feel toward other groups, or how they believe outgroups should be treated? Defining our goals for outcomes of intergroup contact is of crucial importance, yet this issue is often overlooked.
