1 Diagnostic assessment is used to focus on what a pupil or pupils can and cannot do. It is intended to shed light on misunderstandings and misconceptions and to reveal learning difficulties. Teachers use the information gained from diagnostic assessment to build on pupils' strengths and target gaps in their understanding and knowledge.
