ABSTRACT

Thinking about where you want to teach At the time of writing this book there is much talk of teacher shortages. However, Teacher Training Agency (TTA) campaigns to recruit more trainees have been very successful and there are many newly qualified teachers who claim they are unable to obtain work. The truth is that there are shortages of teachers in particular subjects and particular geographical locations. Thus, as a teacher of Physics or Maths you are likely to be able to find work in most areas, whereas if you are a teacher of History wanting to teach within a very limited radius of your small home town you could have problems in securing a post. Job vacancies in London are usually plentiful across all subjects, with many posts having to be filled by teachers from abroad on exchange visits or sabbaticals.
