ABSTRACT

Introduction Thames Environment 21 - The Environment Agency Strategy for Land-Use Planning in the Thames Region (The Environment Agency) was published in March 1998. It provides an approach to achieving sustainable development in the most congested part of England. It sets out the key environmental issues that the Agency wishes to see addressed through the land use planning system in the Thames Region, and indicates the enhancement and mitigation measures that are required from developers if the environment is to be protected and improved. It provides a method for assessing the impact of development on the environment and demonstrates to all those involved in the planning process how this impact can be managed, and a better environment achieved.
