Educativeness as a Virtue of Institutions and Cultures
In view of the fact that a culture’s stock includes liabilities as well as assets, a third major implication of the theory of education as encounter is that cultures and their educational agents can be miseducative as well as educative. Of course, differences of opinion will exist as to whether a given culture or a given group or institution within a culture is one or the other. But this does not alter the point at issue. Nor does it mean that the attributes of being educative and miseducative should be regarded as having equal value.
