ABSTRACT

Ensuring healthy and sustainable living conditions in intensively populated areas has emerged as a major global challenge, and the provision of safe and sustainable water supplies for drinking and sanitation is central to this issue. Important management decisions will have to be taken and it is essential that these acknowledge the entire urban water cycle and the complex interactions that take place between groundwater, surface water and the complex network of water services, including sewers and pressurized water supply systems.
