ABSTRACT
An animal must successfully complete a standardized evaluation before working in a therapy setting. Dogs and cats must be at least 1 year old before they can be evaluated. Other species can be evaluated once they reach maturity, whatever age that may be for that animal. There is more than one model for evaluating the fitness of a pet for therapy work. Four well-known models are reviewed here.
