No children! The adult-only tourism experience

In addition to recognising that children may wish to take holidays without their parents, as discussed in Chapter 7, it is necessary to recognise that some adults may wish to holiday in spaces from which children are absent. Consequently, this chapter provides an overview of the adult-only tourism market and identifies why adults wish to take holidays without children present. It is important to recognise that this market includes both parents and adults who do not have any children. As such, the motivations behind parents’ decisions to holiday without their children are situated within social constructions of the good parent and happy family discussed in Chapter 2.
