ABSTRACT
Traditional views of female labour see women as an inherently vulnerable segment, more easily attracted and dismissed in response to the needs of the economy. The question posed by this chapter is not whether these views are proving obsolete in the light of the increasing integration of women into the labour force, but instead, whether they ever adequately fitted the behaviour of female employment.
