ABSTRACT
This final chapter attempts to provide an overview of what this book tells us about the state of theory, research and practice in offender supervision. In a way it is a summary of what we have learned in the process of working with CREDOS and putting the book together. In this process we have brought together many of the people and materials at the cutting edge of work in this field. There are, unavoidably, some omissions, and new work is being produced all the time: much of the work reported in this volume is new since the most recent similar British compilation (McIvor and Raynor 2007), and the pace of research and innovation shows no sign of slowing down. However, for now this is the most comprehensive available summary, and a good opportunity to assess the general health of this particular corner of social science and societal concern.
