ABSTRACT

It is essential to physically release what our body retains so we don’t hold on to our clients’ energy or toxic narratives. Given the realities of confidentiality, we don’t have many places to release what we’ve held on to all day. If we are not careful, each session can feel like a 50-pound weight has been placed on our shoulders. Imagine the cumulative effect when we are shouldering the weight of six or eight clients. In fact, for therapists who are trauma survivors, much of the material that comes out in sessions can physiologically evoke a flight-fight response.
