It is not a coincidence that so many trauma survivors are attracted to mental health and helping professions. Survivors can bring special attributes to their professional work including the ability to read other people; great listening and problem-solving skills; deep empathy and compassion for the underdog; the capacity to stay grounded, focused, and intellectualized during crisis; an intense work ethic; and firsthand knowledge about the impact of trauma and the healing process.
