ABSTRACT

In understanding and providing therapy and suitable educational approaches for pupils with emotional and behavioural disorders, certain perspectives are important: systems, psychodynamic and cognitivebehavioural approaches. This chapter outlines each of these approaches and considers its scope and relationship to special education. First, however, I define and describe psychotherapy and its relationship to special education. The chapter draws on a related chapter in Foundations of Special Education (Farrell, 2009) where interested readers may find further detail.
