ABSTRACT

Until recently, most of the available background reading on Restorative Practice came from those working to establish Restorative Justice in the field of criminal justice (Zehr 2002; Marshall 1998; Sherman and Strang 1997). There was, and still is, no single universal definition of Restorative Justice, though the following definitions are helpful:

A process whereby all the parties with a stake in a particular offence come together to resolve collectively how to deal with the aftermath of offence and its implications for the future.
