ABSTRACT

Although research on child-centered play therapy (CCPT) spans over 60 years and provides evidence of effectiveness in a multitude of settings and across a wide variety of presenting problems, the focus of this chapter is on research conducted on CCPT from 1995 to 2010, with the exception of two of the meta-analytic studies reviewed. CCPT is the most thoroughly researched theoretical approach in the field of play therapy. Baggerly, in Child Centered Play Therapy Research (Baggerly, Ray, & Bratton, 2010), pointed out,

You will notice that all the research studies described (in this book) are based on the child-centered play therapy (CCPT) theoretical orientation and filial therapy approach. This focus is because virtually all play therapy research studies that were published in a professional journal since the year 2000 (2000 to 2010) were CCPT or filial therapy. (pp. xiii–xiv)
