Via Costa Masciarelli: A Question of Values

In 2003, on a walk with friends who live in the region, Elizabeth and I found

ourselves on a newly remade street. The design details of the street, the quality

of the materials used, and the fine workmanship caught our attention more than

even the modest but compellingly simple historic residences that lined it. Neither

we nor anyone else, I imagine, was thinking of an earthquake then.
