ABSTRACT

For any new venture in life, we need new skills to achieve success. Developing a community of one is no exception. Once we have faced our fears, decided to take some risks, and developed some realistic expectations for our future, we’re on our way. Approaching skill development as an exciting quest for adventure makes all the difference between experiencing it as drudgery or as racing for a prize. Typically, when a person finds himself or herself in a community of one, resources may be unknown, limited, or absent. Therefore, many of the skills described will cost little to nothing in terms of physical resources. They do involve time, perseverance, practice, and a willingness to try something new. Developing skills to become a community of one also equips people to graduate to a community of many with confidence and positive self-esteem.
