ABSTRACT

Education has a series of roles to play in different types of development in various situations and the most appropriate or adequate answer will depend upon the stance from which the observer/participant, educator/educated, views the situation. The purpose of the conference was, therefore, to explore the whole issue of education and international development, and in particular, to focus upon the contribution of education to national and inter-nation cooperation. On their own the concepts of education and development are of course wide and open to loose and multiple interpretations; combine them and a whole new dimension of uncertainties, beliefs, and myths and when talking of misunderstandings are exposed. The gathering together of a group of speakers from around the globe is always a difficult task and accomplished only with the help of a large number of people.
