ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to examine the various challenges and opportunities that surround global or transnational think tanks and policy networks. As has been discussed previously, think tanks have been and will continue to be increasingly crucial in assisting policymakers manage the flood of information that inevitably stems from significant technological advancements and improvement in real-time communication. These organizations will also be highly influential concerning policy issues on a global scale. However, they, just like any other institution, suffer from inherent flaws aswell as challenges that potentially affect how they operate and how successful they are in achieving their goals of influencing the policymaking process. Therefore, the intention of this chapter is to illuminate some of the issues that these transnational entities face, as well as the means and methods by which they can avoid them and fully utilize any opportunities to improve their ability to affect and influence policymakers and the policymaking process.
