ABSTRACT

Our integrative framework highlights a number of different aspects of the self-in-relationship. At any given time or in a speci®c context, particular dimensions of the self may be more in focus in a person's experience than at another time or in another place. These areas of self experience are inevitably interrelated and together contribute to the totality of our experience of self. A problem or de®cit in one area will inevitably in¯uence others and we may also focus more on one area because of our past relational, familial and cultural experiences. The various dimensions of self experience serve as a basis for exploring, understanding and working with self processes in our internal worlds, as we interface with the external world. However, it is important to stress the intimate interrelationship between these different dimensions of self experience.
