ABSTRACT

In Chapter 1, we suggested that there could be many reasons – including the desire to increase self-reliance – why developing countries should want to increase their trade with each other. So far, the growth of this trade has been patchy at best; while trade among some ldcs has grown substantially, others have had less success. In this chapter, we first look at the statistics of trade among ldcs, then examine some of the reasons why ldcs wish to increase co-operation through trade and in other ways, and lastly review some of the new developments in this area.
