ABSTRACT

This chapter explores several management principles/theories that tend to guide decision making in many organizations including institutions of higher education. There is no single theory that describes all higher education, nor is there one theory that is best suited for every institution within such diverse higher education settings. What works for one institution will not necessarily be as effective at many others. It is up to the administrators of each institution to determine which managerial styles, processes, and strategies are best suited for them and their respective institutions based on their institutional mission, vision, and values.
