ABSTRACT

In this chapter SEN and related issues are considered in the context of school experience and preparation for qualified status.

The common threads for all trainee teachers are that:

it is in school that you will begin to work directly with learners with a wide range of needs, including SEN; and

regardless of the route or course you are embarking upon, you will be required to provide evidence that you have reached QTS standards because there are a number of practically-based standards that can only be demonstrated through actually working with children or young people.
