ABSTRACT

Leino, 1987). Similarly in a study of epistemic orientation of coaches and athletes involved in high level competitive sports, Gravelle and Deschênes (1986) reported evidence that epistemic congruence between coach and athlete was an important variable to consider in the design of effective training sessions. The study concluded that an epistemic match between coach and athlete was essential for good instructional fit because of the substantial amount of time spent working closely together. Given the above, and cognizant of the rather individualized nature of golf instruction, the purpose of this study was to identify the epistemic orientations of a sample of golf instructors and students.
