ABSTRACT

Three piece balls contain a center produced from cis 1,4 polybutadiene rubber which is highly filled to give a density of 1.7 grams/ cc. This 1.06 inch in diameter center is wound with a flat rubber thread in tension to give a core which is about 1.5 inches in diameter. This wound ball is then covered with a cover of either balata rubber or a cover of “Surlyn” ionomer. These covers are placed on the ball by compression molding techniques.
