ABSTRACT
The European Union (EU) is a multi-product club offering a variety of economic and political benefits, including a common market, a single currency, common agricultural, social and regional policies and a security and defence policy (ESDP). On this basis, the EU forms a military alliance. However, its multi-product features are in contrast to the NATO military alliance which is a single-product club specialising in collective defence.
