ABSTRACT

Are you a new or returning social studies teacher, intrigued or even frightened by recent major changes in the economy? Whatever your level of experience, and whatever your involvement with teaching economics, this book is for you. To some teachers, the thought of an economics class is a bad dream, the more so since financial markets melted down and ushered in the Great Recession of 2007-2010. Even in good times, many otherwise well prepared social studies teachers balk when it comes to teaching economics. There are many reasons for this. We will name three:

• First, social studies teachers are better prepared in history, government, and geography than they are in economics. This is reason able given that these courses are nearly universally taught in secondary schools.
