ABSTRACT
The fi rst narrative picturebooks devoid of text appeared in France (coming from Italy) during the 1970s. The aim of these books was no longer listingas we found in the baby concept books of the 1930s-but telling. Turning the page did not simply mean discovering the picture of a new object but creating a link between pictures, building a chronological sequence and deciphering the different steps of a story.
