ABSTRACT

Critical policy studies have been characterised as a broad ‘ensemble of approaches and perspectives’ that aim to ‘speak truth to power’ (Orsini and Smith 2007: 1). This book is a contribution to critical analyses of education policy. It emphasises the interplay of power and politics in the processes and everyday practices associated with education markets in inner city areas. It is also concerned with identifying and conceptualising how education policy connects to urban policy and urban change, including area-based initiatives and gentrifi cation.
