ABSTRACT
Yemen’s history goes back as far as the 3rd millennium B.C., when it was known as Arabia Felix, or happy or blessed Arabia, because it was the source of a range of luxury goods, such as myrrh and frankincense. The most powerful ancient civilization was that of the Sabaeans, ruled by the Queen of Sheba, which was followed by the early Islamic period starting in the early 7th century.
