ABSTRACT

These two research questions divided the study into two parts. The first part was dominated by sociological and philosophical concepts in regard to human security and terrorism. Part II was mainly anchored in international law. The working definition of human security used in this study has been the definition of the CHS:

• to protect the vital core of all human lives, • in ways that enhance human freedoms and human fulfilment; • to protect people from critical (severe) and pervasive (widespread) threats

and situations; • to build on people’s strengths and aspirations.
