This chapter discusses, in Section 2, the capitalization of the ECB and, in Section­3,­the­rules­for­distribution­of­its­profits­and­coverage­of­its­losses,­and­ its­ability­ to­create­financial­buffers.­ It­ also­briefly­discusses,­ in­Section­4,­ the­ significance­ of­ the­ Eurosystem’s­ accounting­ policies­ for­ ensuring­ the­maintenance of its capital base.
