ABSTRACT

I would like to start with a story about a man whose marriage was in trouble, as was told in Anthony de Mello’s One Minute Wisdom (1985, p. 175). The man sought a master’s advice, and the master said, “You must learn to listen to your wife.” The man went home and took his master’s advice to heart. He returned after a month and told the master that he had learned to listen to every word his wife said. The master smiled and said, “Now go home and listen to every word she isn’t saying.”
