Introduction of the case
Jade, a middle-aged married woman, mother of two children, and a professional, casually walked into the sandplay therapy room several years ago. She smiled shyly and told me that the reasons she came were similar to those of other professionals; she wanted to advance in her counseling professional career, to learn sandplay, and to understand herself. When she was asked specifically if she had any personal problems, she replied that she sometimes had low moods and occasional temper flare-ups. With such a brief and seemingly non-alarming introduction, she and I became engaged in a long-term sandplay process that was filled with dangers, anxieties, and challenges. Nevertheless, it also became unusually fruitful, productive, and transforming.
